how to make patterns

Step One
Open up a new canvas 400 x 400 pixels and scribble.

Step Two
Resize it: Image > Image Size: 200 x 200 pixels. click.

Step Three
Image > Canvas Size > on the Anchor Map (the 3x3 boxes) press the top-left box. Then type in 400 x 400. click.

Step Four
Layer > Duplicate Layer. Edit > Transform > Flip Horizontal. Change blending mode to multiply. Layer > Flatten. Duplicate, flip vertical, multipy and flatten. click.

Step Four

Resize: 100 x 100 or 50 x 50. Change the color if you want and you're finished! Here's the outcome and after I select all > define pattern then fill onto a new canvas, it looks like this.
